Day by Day: What Four Days in Cairo Actually Looks Like
Day 1 — Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum
Start where everyone starts, because on this one occasion everyone is right. The Giza Plateau appears on nearly every Cairo tour we run, and the Grand Egyptian Museum pairs with it on every single programme — not for marketing reasons, but for geographic ones. The two sit close enough to work as one day, so you are not spending your first afternoon in traffic.
Giza is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from downtown Cairo depending on the hour, which is the first thing most first-time visitors get wrong. If your flight lands late the night before, this is still a comfortable opening day. Day 2 — Saqqara, and the Museum That Started It All
Day one gives you the finished product. Day two shows you the draft. The Step Pyramid at Saqqara is where the idea of a pyramid was worked out, and seeing it after Giza rather than before is what turns a photo opportunity into an actual story. Day 3 — Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo and Khan El Khalili
Two days of pharaonic Egypt is enough to forget that Cairo has been continuously inhabited ever since. Day three fixes that. Finish at the bazaar. Khan El Khalili is the city's oldest working market, and the operative word is working. It functions best as an evening component rather than a rushed midday stop, which is exactly why we place it at the end of a day rather than the middle of one.
Day 4 — The Day You Get to Choose
By now you know what you want more of. Three options, all of them things we already operate.

Adding Luxor and the Nile After Cairo
A large share of the travellers who book a Cairo programme with us do not stop there. Four days in the capital extends naturally south by short flight or overnight train onto the Nile cruise route from Aswan to Luxor, and our Luxor tours pick up from there.
If a longer Egypt trip is even a possibility, tell us your total number of nights when you enquire rather than after. It is considerably more efficient for us to design the extension at the outset than to bolt it on once the Cairo days are fixed.
