Egypt has never had a supply problem. Pyramids, tombs, temples, a bazaar that has been trading for centuries, a desert bigger than most countries, and a river that still does the job it did five thousand years ago. Ask any traveller what they want to see here and the list arrives fast.
The difficulty comes later, when you sit down with a calendar and realise a week has seven days in it. Choosing the best excursions in Egypt is really an exercise in subtraction. What earns a full day? What works as a half day? What sounds unmissable on paper but eats six hours of driving?
We are Nile Routes, an Egyptian agency with an office at 103 Pyramids St in Giza, and this page is our answer to that question. Everything below is a programme we actually operate, with the duration, the lead-in price and the sites it covers. Nothing here is a wishlist.
The short version
Our Egypt excursions come in four families. Cairo and Giza tours built around the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, from $165. Shore excursions from Sokhna Port and Port Said for cruise passengers, from $150. Desert and oasis trips to Fayoum, the Western Desert and Siwa. And the Nile route, which runs from Aswan to Luxor by boat and links to Cairo by short flight or overnight train.

What Actually Makes an Excursion Worth Your Day
Before the tours themselves, a word on how we judge them. Three things decide whether a day in Egypt feels generous or rushed, and none of them appear in a photo gallery.
- Sequencing. Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum sit close enough to work as one day. That is not a marketing decision, it is geography, and it is why the two appear together on nearly every itinerary we build.
- Honest timing. Giza is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from downtown Cairo, and traffic decides which end of that range you get. An itinerary that pretends otherwise is an itinerary that will run late by lunchtime.
- Who controls the pace. On a private format, you leave a site when you are finished with it. On a fixed day, such as a cruise call, that difference is the whole trip.
You will notice we say no to things on this page as often as we say yes. That is deliberate. A shorter list you enjoy beats a longer one you survive.

Cairo and Giza: The Excursions Everything Else Is Measured Against
If you only do one thing in Egypt, you already know what it is. The interesting question is what you put next to it.
Our answer for a single day is the Pyramids of Giza with the Grand Egyptian Museum, and then Khan El Khalili in the evening if you still have energy. The bazaar is a working market rather than a monument, which makes it a poor midday stop and a very good one after dark.
Give us two or three days and the city opens properly. The Citadel of Saladin becomes the bridge between pharaonic Egypt and Islamic Cairo. Coptic Cairo, home to some of the oldest churches anywhere, adds a third layer that most short itineraries skip entirely. And Saqqara gives you a second data point on pyramid architecture, which matters more than it sounds if pyramids are the reason you came.
Cairo Excursions Worth a Full Day or Three

Giza Day Tour Egypt: Pyramids, Citadel of Saladin, Coptic Cairo and Khan El Khalili
The densest itinerary we offer at this price point. It puts the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum alongside the Citadel of Saladin, Coptic Cairo and Khan El Khalili, so you get all three historical layers of the city in one booking.

3 Day Cairo Tour: Pyramids, GEM Museum, Saqqara and Coptic Cairo
Three days is the point where Cairo stops feeling like a race. This package covers the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx, the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Coptic Cairo, with a private Egyptologist guide throughout.

9-Day Egypt Tour: Cairo, Alexandria, Nile Cruise and Luxor
Our longest programme, and the one that removes the hardest decisions. Cairo, Alexandria, a Nile cruise and Luxor in a single itinerary, taking in the Giza Pyramids, the GEM Museum and Khan El Khalili along the way.

Planning the Giza day yourself? Our Great Pyramid of Giza tour page, the Giza Pyramids tickets guide and our pyramid booking notes cover the plateau in more detail than we can fit here.
Egypt Shore Excursions: One Day, One Ship, No Margin for Error
Cruise passengers play a different game. The ship sets the clock, the port is not in Cairo, and a missed return is a genuinely bad afternoon. So these itineraries are built backwards from the sailing time rather than forwards from a wishlist.
We serve two ports. From Sokhna Port we run two private programmes, and on the Cairo Day Tour we collect you directly from your ship at 08:00 and return you at the end of the day. From Port Said you can take a single day, or stay overnight and watch the itinerary roughly double in scope.

Cairo Day Tour From Sokhna Port: Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum
The straightforward option for a Sokhna call. Private throughout, collection from your ship at 08:00, and a day centred on the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum before we return you to the port.

Trip to Pyramids and Cairo from Sokhna Port: 12 Hours
A private twelve-hour excursion from the port to the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Lunch features in the day, which matters more than travellers expect on a schedule this long.

Port Said Shore Excursion: Cairo Day Trip with Pyramids and GEM Museum
One day from Port Said covering the Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Khan El Khalili. It is the most complete single day we can responsibly build from that port, and we would rather tell you that than oversell it.

Port Said Shore Excursion: Cairo Overnight Tour
Add a night and the city stops being a highlights reel. This programme covers the Giza Pyramids, the GEM Museum, the Cairo Citadel, Coptic Cairo and Khan El Khalili at a pace that lets each one register.
View TourCairo Plus the Mediterranean: Alexandria Excursions
Alexandria is the cleanest change of scenery available from Cairo, and it needs no internal flight. You swap sand for sea, pharaonic stone for Graeco-Roman layers, and the pace drops noticeably.
We run two versions. The two-day trip keeps Cairo at the centre and adds an Alexandria day. The three-day version goes deeper into the coast, taking in the Catacombs, Qaitbay Citadel and the Alexandria Library, with a private guide and Coptic Cairo folded in.

2 Days Cairo and Alexandria Tour: Pyramids, Souk and Mediterranean
The Giza Pyramids, the GEM Museum and Khan El Khalili, then a day on the coast. If you want one excursion that changes the scenery completely rather than adding another temple, this is it.
View Tour

3 Day Cairo and Alexandria Short Tour Package: Pyramids to the Mediterranean
The longer take on the same idea, with a private guide. The itinerary takes in the GEM Museum, the Catacombs, Qaitbay Citadel, the Alexandria Library and Coptic Cairo.
View TourDesert Excursions: Fayoum, the Western Desert and Siwa Oasis
Here is the part of Egypt that most itineraries never reach, usually because nobody told the traveller it was an option. The desert is not scenery you drive past on the way to a temple. It is the destination.
Fayoum works as a trip out of Cairo when you want landscape without committing several days. The Western Desert asks for two. Siwa, tucked far towards the Libyan border, is the serious commitment and rewards it accordingly, which is why we run it over two, three and four days rather than trying to compress it.
- Fayoum tour from Cairo, for travellers who want a change of landscape inside a day.
- Private Fayoum desert safari from Cairo, the same region with the private format.
- Western Desert tour from Cairo, 2 days.
- Siwa Oasis over two days, three days or four days, depending on how much of the drive you want to trade for time on the ground.
Full details for each sit on its own page, and our team can tell you which of them combines cleanly with the Cairo itinerary you are already considering. Some pair better than others, and that depends mostly on your arrival and departure days.

Down the Nile: Luxor, Aswan and the Cruise Route
Cairo tells you what ancient Egypt built. The south tells you how it lived. A large share of travellers who book a Cairo excursion with us end up continuing that way, and it is easy to see why: the river does the moving while you stay put.
The route we operate is the Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor, reached from Cairo by short flight or overnight train. If Luxor itself is what you are after, our Luxor tours cover the city on its own terms. And if you would rather not assemble the pieces yourself, the 9-Day Egypt Tour already links Cairo, Alexandria, the cruise and Luxor in one programme.
One planning note that saves everyone time. If you think you might extend south, tell us your total number of nights in your first message. Designing the whole route at the start is almost always cleaner, and cheaper in effort, than bolting a cruise onto a Cairo booking after the fact.

The Sites You Keep Seeing on These Itineraries
Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx
The plateau appears on nearly all of our Cairo excursions, which tells you everything about its gravitational pull. The Sphinx specifically features on our twelve-hour Sokhna excursion and our three-day Cairo package.
Grand Egyptian Museum and the Egyptian Museum
The Grand Egyptian Museum pairs with Giza on every programme we run, for the simple reason that the two sit close enough to share a day. Our Giza Day Tour Egypt itinerary also takes in the Egyptian Museum, which suits travellers who want the older collection alongside the new one rather than choosing between them.
Coptic Cairo
Some of the oldest churches in the world, in a quarter that feels nothing like the rest of the city. It appears on the overnight Port Said excursion, the Giza Day Tour, the three-day Cairo package and the three-day Alexandria package, and it pairs neatly with a half day at Khan El Khalili once the main attractions are behind you.
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
The city's oldest working bazaar, and working is the operative word. Treat it as an evening or half-day component rather than a twenty-minute stop between museums.
Citadel of Saladin
On our Port Said overnight tour and the Giza Day Tour Egypt itinerary. It is the natural hinge between pharaonic Egypt and Islamic Cairo, and it changes how the rest of the city reads.
Saqqara
The Step Pyramid appears on our three-day Cairo tour with a private Egyptologist. If pyramid architecture is genuinely why you booked this trip, one pyramid field is not enough of a sample.

Which Excursion Suits Which Traveller
| If you are | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A cruise passenger with one day ashore | Sokhna or Port Said shore excursions | Private format, ship pickup at 08:00 on the Sokhna day tour, and a day built around the return time |
| A first-time visitor to Egypt | Giza Day Tour Egypt or the 3 Day Cairo Tour | Covers the pharaonic, Coptic and Islamic layers in a single booking |
| A traveller who wants depth over volume | 3 Day Cairo Tour | Saqqara plus a private Egyptologist guide, at a pace that allows questions |
| A couple or small group adding the coast | 2 or 3 Day Cairo and Alexandria | Extends the trip beyond the capital with no internal flights |
| Someone drawn to landscape rather than monuments | Fayoum, Western Desert or Siwa Oasis | Desert programmes from one day up to four |
| A traveller continuing to Luxor and the Nile | Nile cruise Aswan to Luxor, or the 9-Day Egypt Tour | Cairo links south by short flight or overnight train |

How We Build These Excursions
A few things hold true across the range, and they are the parts that rarely make it into a tour listing.
- Timing that matches reality. Our itineraries are built around how long things actually take in Cairo, not how many entries fit on a page.
- Private where it is specified. Our Sokhna Port excursions run privately, and the three-day Cairo tour and three-day Alexandria package include a private guide.
- Modular days. Our Cairo day tours are assembled from half-day and full-day blocks, which is what makes reshaping an itinerary practical rather than theoretical.
- Port collection. Sokhna guests are collected directly from the ship, with the Cairo Day Tour departing at 08:00.
- Egyptologist guiding where stated. The three-day Cairo tour is led by a private Egyptologist.
What to Confirm Before You Commit
We would rather answer a question now than apologise for an assumption later, so here is what genuinely varies.
Prices on our tour pages are lead-in rates, and the final figure depends on your dates, group size and chosen itinerary. Inclusions such as meals, entrance fees and transfer arrangements differ between programmes, so check them for the specific excursion you are looking at rather than reading across from a similar one. Lunch, for example, features in the twelve-hour Sokhna excursion; that does not make it standard everywhere.
Sequencing can shift too. Cairo traffic and site opening arrangements sometimes change the running order of a day, and our team will tell you what to expect for your particular dates rather than leaving you to discover it in the car.
