Overview
Your ship docks at Sokhna. You have one day. Spend it properly.
This is a private, twelve-hour trip to Pyramids and Cairo from Sokhna Port, built for cruise passengers who want the two things Egypt is genuinely famous for — the Giza plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum — without the anxiety of watching the clock. Your guide meets you at the ship. An air-conditioned private vehicle takes you to Giza and brings you back. Everything in between is yours.
At Giza you’ll stand beneath the three pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus, then walk to the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple beside it. From there you’ll visit the Papyrus Institute to see how the ancient Egyptians produced the first paper in history from the papyrus plant — and, if you want to take something real home rather than something from a stall, it’s the right place to buy it. Lunch is served at a local restaurant in Giza. The afternoon belongs to the Grand Egyptian Museum, two kilometres from the pyramids you spent the morning inside.
Then we return you to Sokhna Port in time for your ship.
At Nile Routes, we run this as a private tour only — your party, your guide, your vehicle. Pickup is flexible: tell us when your ship berths, and we build the day around it. That flexibility is the single most important feature of any Egypt shore excursion, because cruise schedules move and fixed group departures don’t.
Itinerary
Your guide meets you at your cruise ship in Sokhna Port and you travel to Cairo by private air-conditioned vehicle. Pickup time is set by your ship's arrival, not ours.
You begin at the Pyramids of Giza: Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus. From the pyramids you continue to the Great Sphinx, and then to the Valley Temple that sits at its side. Your guide is with you throughout, and entrance fees to these sites are included.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant in Giza. One lunch is included in your tour price. Drinks at the restaurant are not, so budget separately for those.
The Grand Egyptian Museum stands on the Giza plateau, just two kilometres from the pyramids. It is the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilisation, designed to house more than 100,000 artefacts. Its centrepiece is the first-ever complete display of the entire Tutankhamun collection — over 5,000 treasures shown together for the first time since their discovery. You'll also see the colossal Statue of Ramses II in the Grand Atrium and the Grand Staircase, lined with large-scale royal and divine statues. The building's translucent façade opens onto panoramic views of the pyramids, which connects everything inside it directly to the plateau you walked that morning.
We drive you back to Sokhna Port and assist your transfer so you board your ship comfortably.

Why Book This Tour With Nile Routes
Pickup timed to your ship, not to a schedule. We are flexible with the pickup time according to your cruise’s arrival, and we return you to Sokhna Port on time. Our team assists your transfer back to the port so you catch your ship — this is written into the tour, not left to chance.
A genuinely private tour. Private vehicle, private guide, your own pace. If you want longer at the Sphinx and less at the Papyrus Institute, say so on the day. Families and groups also receive a special price — ask when you enquire.
A licensed guide in your language. Your guide speaks English as standard. French, Dutch, German, Spanish and Italian are available on request — worth mentioning at the enquiry stage so we can confirm availability.
Entrance fees already covered. Admission to the sites listed in this itinerary is included in the price, along with all service charges and taxes. Lunch is included. So is a bottle of mineral water per person. You are not being routed toward a list of surprise costs at the gate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to travel from Sokhna Port to the Pyramids of Giza?
The full excursion runs 12 hours door to door, from the moment we collect you at your ship to the moment we deliver you back to Sokhna Port. That window covers the drive to Giza, your time at the sites, lunch and the return. Because road conditions and port procedures vary by date, we confirm the exact driving time against your ship's schedule when you enquire.
What is included in a typical Pyramids and Cairo tour from Sokhna Port?
Your price covers pickup from your cruise ship, an air-conditioned private vehicle for the Sokhna–Cairo–Sokhna round trip, entrance fees to every site in the itinerary, an English-speaking guide, one lunch at a local restaurant, a bottle of mineral water per person, and all service charges and taxes. We also assist your transfer back to the port. Tipping, drinks at lunch, and any additional tours are not included.
Can I book a private tour from Sokhna Port to the Pyramids?
Yes — this excursion is offered as a private tour only. You travel with your own guide in your own air-conditioned vehicle, and the pace of the day belongs to your party rather than to a fixed group timetable. Departures run every day. Families and groups travelling together receive a special price, so tell us your party size when you enquire and we'll confirm the rate for your date.
Are entrance fees to the Pyramids and Sphinx included in the tour price?
Yes. Admission to every site named in this itinerary is included — the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Valley Temple, the Papyrus Institute and the Grand Egyptian Museum — along with all service charges and taxes. You won't be asked for ticket money at the gate. What isn't covered is tipping, drinks ordered at lunch, and any optional tour you decide to add beyond this programme.
Is lunch provided during the Sokhna Port to Cairo and Pyramids day trip?
Yes. One lunch at a local restaurant in Giza is included in your price, served between the morning at the plateau and the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Each traveller also receives a bottle of mineral water. Drinks ordered at the restaurant during lunch are not included and are settled directly. If anyone in your party has a dietary requirement, mention it in your enquiry so we can pass it on.
What time should I expect pickup from Sokhna Port for a Pyramids tour?
There is no fixed departure time. We are flexible with pickup and set it according to your cruise's arrival, which is the point of running this as a private excursion. Your guide meets you at the ship. Send us your vessel's name and its scheduled arrival and sailing times with your enquiry, and we'll confirm the pickup arrangement and the return timing for your specific port call.
Can I visit the Grand Egyptian Museum on the same day from Sokhna Port?
Yes — the Grand Egyptian Museum is a fixed part of this itinerary, not an add-on. It sits on the Giza plateau roughly two kilometres from the pyramids, which is what makes both possible in one day. You'll see the complete Tutankhamun collection of over 5,000 treasures, the colossal Statue of Ramses II in the Grand Atrium, and the Grand Staircase lined with royal and divine statues.
Are guides on Sokhna Port to Pyramids tours licensed Egyptologists?
Your guide accompanies you throughout the day at the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Valley Temple, the Papyrus Institute and the Grand Egyptian Museum. English is standard, with French, Dutch, German, Spanish and Italian available on request. Because language availability varies by date, request yours at the enquiry stage. If guide qualifications matter to you, ask us directly and we'll confirm the credentials of the guide assigned to your date.
