Day by Day on the River
Fly to Aswan, Board, and Meet the River
You fly Cairo to Aswan early, and our guide is waiting outside the terminal holding a sign with your name on it — no scanning a crowd, no wondering whether anyone came.
The day begins at the High Dam, then a short motorboat ride carries you across to Philae Temple. Philae was cut into forty thousand pieces and rebuilt stone by stone on higher ground when the dam raised the water. Your guide will tell you that entire rescue story on the boat over, which is a far better use of a ten-minute crossing than staring at your phone. The Unfinished Obelisk also sits on the Aswan programme.

A Sailing Day and the Temple of Two Gods
This is the day people quietly tell us was their favourite, and it is the day with the least on the schedule. The ship sails. You sit on deck and watch farmland, water buffalo and mudbrick villages slide past at walking pace.
Then Kom Ombo — a temple split perfectly down the middle and dedicated to two gods at once, Sobek the crocodile and Horus the falcon. Ancient Egypt's answer to a shared custody arrangement, and it is more striking in person than any photograph manages.
Horse Carriage to Edfu, Then Luxor's East Bank
You reach the Temple of Horus at Edfu by horse-drawn carriage from the mooring, which is included and which is exactly as charming as it sounds. Edfu is the best-preserved temple in Egypt, largely because sand buried it for centuries and sand, as it turns out, is an excellent conservator.
Then Luxor's east bank: Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built, and Luxor Temple, which looks entirely different once the light goes.
Valley of the Kings, Then Home
The west bank closes the journey: the Valley of the Kings, the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, and the twin Colossi of Memnon. Then a transfer to Luxor airport for your flight back to Cairo.
You will have unpacked exactly once in four days. That is not a small thing in Egypt.

Our advice, plainly: choose by schedule, not by prestige. Downstream takes fewer nights and suits a tighter trip. Upstream gives you more Luxor time because the west bank sites spread across extra days. Neither is the "better" cruise, whatever anyone tells you.

October through April is the answer for comfortable temperatures, and it is the window most of our guests choose. Days are warm enough for the sun deck and mild enough that a morning at Karnak does not feel like an endurance event.
Summer departures cost less. They also involve serious daytime heat, and we will say so rather than let you find out at the Valley of the Kings at one in the afternoon. If your dates are fixed to summer, the cruise is still very much doable — we simply front-load the sightseeing into the early hours and let the ship's air conditioning handle the middle of the day.
One practical note that matters more than season: sailing dates are fixed by the vessel schedule. Ships do not depart daily. Confirm your departure with us before you book flights into Egypt, not after.
Who This Cruise Suits
First-time visitors to Egypt. You get the essential temple sequence in the right order, with someone qualified explaining it, and without four hotel check-ins in four days.
Families with children. Honestly one of the easiest ways to travel Egypt with kids — one unpacking, meals sorted, no daily hotel changes, and a ship they can move around on between sites. Confirm cabin configuration and child pricing with us in advance.

What to Pack for a Nile Cruise
Nothing exotic. Think about what the days actually contain: open temple sites with very little shade, a few hours on deck, and evenings that cool down more than people expect between October and April.
- Sun protection. Hat, sunglasses, high-factor sunscreen. The Valley of the Kings offers no shade whatsoever.
- Comfortable closed shoes. Temple floors are uneven stone, not walkways.
- Layers. Warm afternoons, noticeably cooler evenings on the water.
- Modest cover-ups. Useful for religious and heritage sites.
- Small notes for tipping. Gratuities are not included, always your call, and much easier with small change to hand.
- A refillable bottle. Drinks on board are not included, so this saves you money as well as plastic.
